The name JYSK (pronounced YOOSK) is important to us as it says a lot about who we are and how we act as a company.
The word means someone or something originating from the Danish peninsula called Jutland. The people from Jutland are generally considered to be hard working, down to earth and reliable, much like our employees.
The Danish word jysk was also important to our founder, Lars Larsen, when he opened his first stores with the name JYSK SENGETØJSLAGER. It was later shortened to JYSK, which is our name today.
Our Scandinavian roots make up the foundation of how we do business. We are a value-driven company based on Scandinavian values such as honesty and respect – both towards customers and colleagues.
Our three fundamental JYSK Values – Tradesman, Colleague and Corporate Spirit, are the three basic values that our employees encounter most quickly at JYSK. The values come from our founder Lars Larsen and express in a simple way the behaviour and attitude that is expected among the employees at JYSK.
JYSK Leadership expresses the behaviour and attitude we expect from our leaders every single day. Our three fundamental JYSK Leadership values are Leader, Coach and Communicator and they largely reflect our Scandinavian roots as we trust each other and believe in delegation and freedom under responsibility. Hence, our Scandinavian roots also define the values that guide us in how we lead the company.
Coaching and employee development through feedback is a big part of our management philosophy.
For us, it is an important management task to ensure that we have all employees involved. Not because they have to - but because they want to.
We have expectations of our employees but our employees should to a large extent also have expectations of JYSK as an employer and workplace.
